Bernie Aldridge
In Memoriam
Sunderland Speedway Supporters are sad to report the death of former Sunderland rider Bernie Aldridge. Bernie passed away recently after being confined to his bed for some time, he was well into his eighties when he died. Bernie always had a unique sense of humour and was quite active until recently. He kept in touch with me, and we exchanged old programmes and photographs, and always sent a Xmas card each year.
Bernie rode speedway for a number of tracks, and while never a big star, he was never the less a "Sunderland Star" in 1971. We thank him for the memories and for his efforts for Sunderland Speedway. He must have been about 50 year old when he rode at the Boldon track,
always gave his all, and never
gave up trying.
"Benie the Bolt" you will be
sadly missed around speedway
circles.
