Andy Meldrum
Former flyer with Berwick Bandits, Andy was brought in as a
replacement for Dennis Gavros. A more than useful Heat
Leader, Andys 15 matches brought an ave of 6.07.
He bolstered the middle order, but was capable of much more
before he suddenly announced his retirement. Years later I
asked him why he gave up Speedway, he replied... "It's a
dangerous sport to take part in, and I couldnt see myself
improving, so I got out."
I think Andy under-estimated himself, at best he was a damn good Heat Leader,
capable of much more than his 6.00 average.
