"The Candy Kid"
John Knock, "The Candy Kid"... so called because of the red and white top that he wore.
Managed to put in 27 matches in that traumatic 1971 season, with an average of 3.83, he
was always struggling. Indeed riding his bike seemed as if it was a struggle to him, he
often appeared to wrestling with the machine.
Still he was a game trier whose highlight was a 6pt haul versus Long Eaton at home in
1971, the same match that Alan Mackie top-scored with 12pts. It must have been a rare
off-day for the top men, Dent and Barclay.
